Developing the stability of character and confidence to succeed in all situations is a lifelong process that begins in childhood.

Friendship Mountain teaches self-discipline, courtesy and stewardship so that children may see the character and maturity in their actions, and learn to value and trust it.

Friendship Mountain Day Camp is a special week to make friends, learn meditation and mindfulness. Campers paint, tinker, fold origami, build with Legos, create in the ceramics studio, play with water, get crafty with hot glue, build life-size structures, balance on a slack-line, run an obstacle course, and cultivate the garden.

Over and over parents report that Friendship Mountain is their child's favorite camp all summer!

Campers spend time every day with a counselor in Small Group, creating the opportunity for each child to make deep connections with a small peer group and a counselor, as well as with the whole camp and staff.

Children need not come from Buddhist households. Friendship Mountain teaches that our life is full of friendly joy if we treat ourselves, others, and each thing with kindness and respect. Camp activities, responsibilities, and friendships will facilitate making this attitude our good habit. These values are Zen Buddhist, and they are universal.

Campers prepare and serve their own snacks, clean up after their activities, and leave every location they visit better than they found it. Mindfulness games and activities, meditation, and Zen Buddhist chanting, such as the Loving Kindness Sutra, are shared each day.

We create an intimate, safe and trusting community of campers and our commitment to each camper includes keeping the adult-to-camper ratio 4:1 or below.
