Apartment #3, the studio apartment with full bath, is located above the Ceramics Studio with a private entrance on an acre of lovely grounds. The hardwood floor, wood accents and simple decor all offer a welcoming sanctuary.
The view from the windows is the best of any at the Zen Center. A deep skylight over the studio has a shade that can be opened or closed. This skylight's well of moonlight is the origin of two of the studio's nicknames; 'The Moon Unit' and 'Moon in a Dewdrop.'
The third nickname of the studio is 'The Dorm.' It has a storied history of use by Zen students during multi-day meditation retreats.
The studio is equipped with an electric kettle, microwave and mini-fridge, and full kitchen privileges in the Zen Center kitchen of the Residence Hall. There you may use the double convection oven, six-burner range and other useful kitchen appliances: Crockpot, Instapot, Cuisinart, KitchenAid stand mixer, Vitamix and more. Storage in the pantry, refrigerator and freezer are yours.
Explore the flower gardens, fruit trees and vegetable garden or sit on the porch of the Dining Hall watching the birds play in the courtyard fountain.
Washer and dryer are across the courtyard in a shared laundry room.
The studio is a few blocks from the Ashland Bike Path, which offers a pleasant 30- minute walk into the heart of Ashland. Bicycle rentals, river rafting services, farmer’s markets, hot springs, spa services, yoga classes, organic farms, wineries, restaurants, movie theaters, fitness club, and coffee shops are all moments from your doorstep.
Ashland’s finest treasures are just 7 minutes away by car: the Ashland Shakespeare Festival, Oregon Cabaret Theatre, Lithia Park, and the Ashland downtown plaza. The studio is half a block from a Rogue Valley Transit District bus stop which loops through downtown Ashland and connects to Talent, Phoenix and Medford. Additionally, hiking trails in the woods overlooking Ashland, or around the mountain lakes of the surrounding Siskiyou Mountains are always beckoning.
