Don't Know Fall Practice Period

Sunday, September 6 through Sunday September 20

This Fall Practice Period creates the optimum conditions for you to study directly and intimately with the Great Teacher Don’t Know. It is a 15-day residential practice intensive at Ashland Zen Center that concludes with a three-day sesshin.

There are ways to benefit from Practice Period through complete attendance, attendance as a commuter, or attending only the sesshin, depending on your life circumstances. Read the attendance options carefully below.

Each day of Practice Period begins with the wakeup bell and ends with the pillow bell. These days include four periods of zazen; chanting and bowing service; study; work; three simple, nutritious meals; rest and bath period. Each five days of Practice Period is followed by a personal day for laundry, rest and personal care.

Practice Period concludes with sesshin – three days of profound settling, meeting and touching heart-mind in the zendo, in silence, in oryoki meals, in work, in chanting, in bowing.

On the final day of sesshin at 3:00 PM there will be a Jukai Ceremony (ceremony of receiving the Buddhist precepts). Everyone is invited to the Jukai Ceremony.

Fall Practice Period is a time and place to study Don’t Know, digest Don’t Know, sit Don’t Know, share Don’t Know, become Don’t Know.
