Shunryu Suzuki Roshi

At Ashland Zen Center we offer formal Zen Practice in the tradition of Zen master Shunryu Suzuki.

Suzuki Roshi established Zen practice in the San Francisco Bay area in the 1970's and is known for his book "Zen Mind, Beginner's Mind."

Suzuki Roshi once said, "Buddhism is not any special teaching. It’s our human way."

Ashland Zen Center has two teachers.

Jintei Harold Little was ordained a priest in 1990, and Etsudo Patty Krahl was ordained a priest in 1994.

They became transmitted teachers in 2004.

They were ordained by Keido Les Kaye, a Zen priest ordained by Suzuki Roshi in 1971 and officially recognized as a successor in the lineage of Shunryu Suzuki in 1986. Keido is abbot of Kannon Do Zen Meditation Center.

Ashland Zen Center is an affiliate center of Branching Streams, a network of dharm a centers in the lineage of Suzuki Roshi. Through this direct lineage, Suzuki Roshi's teachings and Zen practice are continued at Ashland Zen Center.
