Enlightenment is an Accident:
Ancient Wisdom and Simple Practices
to Make you More Accident Prone
by Tim Burkett
Are you interested in experiencing a new way of studying the self? Sunday reading of ‘Enlightenment is an Accident’ will be our catalyst in this way of study. Through regular zazen practice, exploring mantra, mala and gata practice, and living our ordinary life week after week with extraordinary intention, our study will unfold beyond book-learning, beyond ‘getting it’ or ‘not getting it,’ into Big study:
To study the Buddha way is to study the self.
To study the self is to forget the self.
To forget the self is to be enlightened by all life.
To be enlightened by all life is to
free your body and mind and those of others.
No trace of enlightenment remains,
and this traceless enlightenment is continued forever…
-- Dogen
To forget the self is to become accident-prone.
– Tim Burkett.
Let’s discover what being accident-prone means to each of us in our real lives. Book Study is a natural extension of the Sunday program and convenes in the Sangha Room Library following potluck.
There will be a dana bowl available for your offering if you wish to express gratitude for the teachings.
